AdWords and Yahoo Search Marketing

We have turned on ads from both of these, but are still very much novices in this area. Currently, I have set a budget of $5/day each with a max cost per click of 25 cents. We purchased the initial set-up from Yahoo, so we have a set of ads that they created for us based on our, now outdated, product pages. I had thought that I would just copy those ads to AdWords and do some editing in the process. Unfortunately, there is too much difference between the size of ads (number of text characters) and the creation process to make this easy. So, I am slowly just trying to create some new AdWords campaigns and groups.

The first problem I ran into with AdWords is that I don't see how to set the bid parameters. Creating a new ad group did not require any cost per click information, and the resulting keywords all had a cost of 0.01 and were thus invalid. The answer to this dilemma is that what seemed to be a logical choice of using the Budget Optimizer is maybe not as automatic as one might expect. This seems like a nice feature because it avoids having to research and bid on each set of keywords, but it needs to be rerun after adding keywords to see what the bids are. To do this, go to your campaign page and follow the link for Edit Campaign Settings. At the bottom left of the page, follow the link in the bidding section for View and adjust options, choose Budget Optimizer if not already chosen on the next page, then Continue and Save until done.
